Volunteer Task Descriptions

Special Note: With our move to a new location for 2008, the following task descriptions may be subject to change. Also note that some opportunities are for Friday setup only.

Artists Move In/Setup
A crucial part of the Festival, volunteers assist in the smooth traffic flow of artists into and out of the festival area for set up. Artists and craftspeople from all over the country will be coming into Frederick on Friday. Join this committee and volunteer on Friday, then you'll have the rest of the weekend for enjoying the Festival.

Artists Move Out/Tear Down
What goes up must come down! Volunteers assist in the smooth traffic flow of artists into and out of the festival area for tear down. Sunday, at closing of the festival (5:00 - 7:00 pm) additional help is needed to clear the creek and assist the artists with loading their cars. Great way to meet the artists!!

Admission Gate
Greet visitors, distribute programs, and stamp those entering/exiting the Festival. There are sitting and standing positions at the entrance gate tent.

Beverages
There are two fun beverage sales areas:

  • Lemonade Stands - a great opportunity for families or community groups to volunteer together. Children under the age of 16 must have adult supervision.
  • Beer and Wine Gardens (must be 21 or older) - a great way to meet new friends and enjoy the Festival. This is an especially good opportunity for corporate groups who would like to volunteer together.

Boat Tickets
Have fun and take in the crowd and help sell tickets for the variety of boating activities we offer. Involves money exchange and is annually a popular area.

Booth Sitter
Volunteers are needed to sit in the artists' booths while they have lunch or take a break, basically providing assistance to the artists. This committee gives you the opportunity to meet the artists and help to make their visit to Frederick a pleasant experience.

Children's Creative Area
The Children's interactive art tent is a fun-filled creative experience for kids and volunteers too. It's a popular area and takes a lot of hands to man. Volunteers will assist children with the various art activities. Artistic ability is not required. You just need to like kids and like to have fun!

Decorations
Join us Friday to transform the creek into a festive atmosphere and get ready to celebrate the weekend. Volunteers are needed to help with flags, fabrics, banners and other creative projects.

Gift Shop
Is retail your thing? Join this group of fun-loving volunteers to sell T-shirts, hats, etc at the festival. It's another great way to meet and greet Festival goers.

Logistics
Volunteers help to make sure everything is in place for the Festival from chalking out the artist booths, setting up the Festival, Festival production details and packing up on Sunday evening. This team also keeps things running smoothly during the Festival by making sure the other committees have what they need to do their jobs. This committee starts work on Friday and continues through the close of the Festival on Sunday.

Publicity
Help to get the word out! Volunteers are needed in the weeks prior to the Festival to work with public relations, assembling and distributing flyers and Festival posters around Frederick.

Music Sales
Celebrate with music!! The festival musicians may need assistance sharing their literature and selling their music. This volunteer activity gets you close to the stage.

Signs
Do you have a car and time to get around town? People are needed to put up Festival signs around the community and take them down again when the Festival is over. Some work is done prior to the event in May, Festival weekend, and the final work is completed at the close of the Festival.

VIP Tent
Join up to greet and host the artists and corporate sponsors. Service responsibilities and clean up may be involved.
